Artificial lighting within Saratov and the Saratov region: Territorial differences and dynamics in 2007–2022

The increase in illumination levels in populated areas, including as a result of the implementation of several federal projects, has raised concerns about light pollution caused by artificial lighting. This has led to questions about identifying areas and cities where artificial lighting levels have significantly increased, as well as evaluating the impact of this increase on the environment. Light pollution is considered one of the types of physical pollution, and within this framework, it has been analyzed in the context of the Saratov region.

Modern trends spatial and temporal variability of annual and seasonal air temperature in the Saratov region

Introduction. The analysis of long-term and intra-annual changes in surface air temperature at the regional level allows us to track longterm trends in global warming and climate change, and is the basis for decision-making in various sectors of the economy. Theoretical analysis. The modern trends were studied in the surface atmosphere and quantitative changes in annual and average seasonal air temperatures in the Saratov region in the 20th–21st centuries under changing climate conditions.

First Record of Chimaeroid Fish (Holocephali: ’Edaphodontidae’) from the Lower Cretaceous of the Middle Volga Region

The record of a mandibular tooth plate of the chimaeroid fish Ischyodus sp. from the Lower Cretaceous deposits of the north of the Saratov Volga River Right Bank is described. The presumed age of the find is the Lower Aptian. This is the first recorded occurrence of chimaeroid remains in the Lower Cretaceous (pre-Albian) deposits of the Middle and Lower Volga regions, and the fourth record in deposits of this age in Eastern Europe.

Topological approach to analyzing compactness and connectivity of settlement systems considering terrain constraints (case study of the Saratov Region)

The article examines the application of topological concepts for analysing the structure and assessing the compactness of a regional settlement system. A methodology is proposed that adapts classical topological invariants to evaluate real transport-planning networks using OpenStreetMap data, taking into account physical-geographical and legislative constraints. Instead of abstract node connectivity indices in the settlement system graph, a new operational indicator – the “exit index” – is introduced.

The disparity in development across the Volga-Ural region: A fragile semi-periphery

The issue of regional development in relation to the reproduction of human capital is becoming increasingly urgent every year. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the potential for redistributing human resources within meso- and macro-territorial systems. Using the example of the Volga-Ural macro-region in Russia, the main areas with varying growth potential are considered. Special attention is given to the semi-peripheral or equilibrium zone.

Optimizing the placement of municipal solid waste collection and processing facilities (using the example of Balashovsky district of the Saratov region)

The problem of solid municipal waste (SMW) management in Russia is becoming increasingly relevant, requiring the implementation of effective territorially-oriented solutions. The article analyzes the issues of optimizing the placement of SMW collection and processing facilities using the example of Balashovsky district of the Saratov region. The main focus is on using linear programming methods and geoinformation modeling to select optimal locations for waste processing plants.

Open remote sensing data for the identification of archaeological sites

Archaeology, as a science, is constantly evolving and embracing various interdisciplinary methods. Currently, geoinformation technologies and aerospace remote sensing, along with other remote sensing methods, are becoming some of the primary tools at various stages of archaeological research. This study explores the potential of using open-source remote sensing data to identify archaeological sites.

Landscape Zoning of the Saratov Region’ Right Bank

The article is devoted questions of regional level geosystems landscape zoning with Saratov region’s right bank as an example. Mapping was organized with GIS technologies using on the basis of topographic and thematic maps and space images decoding

Regional Features of Geoecological Risks (with Saratov Region’ Oilfields as an Example)

The article shows characteristic of regional features of oilfield’s geoecological risk (with Saratov region as an example). Geoinformation systems (GIS) and mathematical and cartographical models as a tool of their analysis are disclosed possibilities of using

The Possibilities of GIS Technologies in Addressing the Problem of Optimizing Route of Gas Main (with Petrovskiy District of Saratov Region as an Example)

The article represents possibilities of GIS technology in addressing the problem of optimizing route of gas main in the Petrovskiy district of the Saratov region. Also classical method of calculating the optimal search area of gas main and major factors that influence the position of the route are represented
