Delimitation of metropolitan areas based on transport accessibility of the largest cities (using the example of the Volga-Ural macro-region)

The problem of delimiting agglomerations is an integral part of the broader issue of economic zoning in the socio-economic space. Given its significance for development, it is important to make a methodology for identifying the influence zone of agglomerations as a specific area in spatial planning. To address this issue, this paper proposes a methodology for determining the territorial accessibility of cities based on population size, which combines the use of open data from Open Street Map, modern geospatial techniques, and visualization tools.

Change of the Economic Districts Grid in the Volga Economic Region

This article deals with the problem of economic zoning associated with the methodology of allocation of economic microzones, proposed by E. E. Leyzerovich. A comparison of meshes of the zoning of different years is carried out, the reasons of their differences are established. Possible changes of types of economic districts of the Volga region and the factors promoting them are considered. Comparative development of industry in the districts is analyzed.

The Zoning of the Ural-Volga Region for Spatial Planning Purposes

The composition of macro-regions in the «Strategy of Spatial Development of the Russian Federation for the Period up to 2025» is considered. The principles of allocation of the macro-region are analyzed from the position of compliance with the approaches of economic zoning. Within the vast territory of the Ural-Volga region, typical and transitional regions are distinguished, morphological features of the settlement system are analyzed, primarily in the river valleys. The conclusion is made about the internal heterogeneity of a number of proposed macro-regions.

Spatial planning at the macro and micro levels: Problems of taxonomy and polarization (on the example of the Volga-Ural macroregion)

The issue of spatial planning includes the subject of taxonomy. It seems that it is necessary to switch to the practice of planning, in addition to the meso-level (subject of the Russian Federation), at two taxonomic levels: the macroregion and the economic microdistrict. To do this, the article identifies the main properties of these formations. On the example of the Volga-Ural macroregion the properties of integrity, complementarity and connectivity are analyzed.
